Angel Baskets was founded in 1981 to provide food and clothing for 8 Telluride families at the holidays.   Recognizing that hunger and poverty in the community exist year round, Angel Baskets developed new programs to provide food and clothing throughout the year and expanded the service area to include all of San Miguel County and the west end of Montrose County.  The programs now include the original holiday program; regional food banks; school supplies, backpacks and gym shoes; and gift certificates for elders in Nucla and Naturita to assist them with their prescription co-pay and personal necessities.

Angel Baskets is an all volunteer, 501 c 3 organization with no overhead costs.  The space utilized each year to assemble the holiday gifts; the food banks; and the year round storage space are donated.  To augment donated food, Angel Baskets buys additional food in bulk from a non-profit distributor.  To stretch limited dollars, the clothes, gifts and necessities distributed are either donated or are purchased at store sales throughout the year.  100% of the donations received have a direct impact on the lives of the families served.  Angel Baskets provides the link between those of us with the desire to help and those who need our help the most – local families struggling financially.
