Angel Baskets manages and staffs the San Miguel Regional Food Bank in Telluride and provides food for the food banks in Norwood, Redvale and the west end of Montrose County. The San Miguel Regional Food Bank is located in space provided by San Miguel County.
The food is primarily purchased by Angel Baskets or is donated by organizations, churches and individuals. Angie Peterson, Food Bank Director, said, “We saw a need in the middle section of this community for the people who don’t qualify … for government programs. Social Services came to us and said, ‘You understand the need. Can you run a food bank?’ As a non-profit we could fill that niche.”
The food banks provide a year round emergency food supply that sustains families during difficult economic times.

The Holiday Program is the historic core of Angel Baskets. Food and gifts are donated or are purchased with donations from individuals and businesses. Families apply and qualify to receive an Angel Basket through Social Services and other community organizations. Each family member may request a needed gift, usually warm clothing, a toy or a household item.
These special requests are purchased by Angel Baskets or are distributed to caring individuals who purchase the gift and return it to Angel Baskets for distribution. The food, special gift, many other gifts and gift certificates are delivered to the families by volunteers just before the holidays.
